End of Summer Water Day
- Date:
- Place: Ray Kestner Waterfront Park

Kayaks on the water, games on the grass, and a potluck under the pavilion where everyone brought something — one last summer day together.
On Saturday, September 12, we spent the afternoon at Ray Kestner Waterfront Park in Houghton. Things got going in the parking lot, where the kayaks came off the trailer and headed down to the water.
The day at a glance
- Kayaking on Portage Lake from 3:00 PM
- Pickup soccer on the lakeside lawn
- Potluck at the Rotary Pavilion from 5:00 PM
The wind was up on Portage Lake, but paddlers still took the boats out while others gathered at the water’s edge. Later in the afternoon, a pickup soccer game started on the lawn beside the lake.
In the early evening the potluck began under the Rotary Pavilion, where families and friends gathered around a table of shared food. We planned the day as a family-friendly gathering with a special welcome for new members, and we are grateful to everyone who paddled, played, cooked and shared it with us.
