Family Hiking & Scenic Trip
- Date:
- Place: Keweenaw Peninsula

A bus full of families up the Keweenaw — Great Sand Bay, a fog-wrapped Brockway Mountain, and Copper Harbor. Worth every minute.
The trip was open to MSA members and their families, with a limited number of guest and community spots by reservation. Everyone met at Upper Daniel Heights on Sunday morning and boarded a school bus for a full day on the road.
The fog came along for the ride. It hung over the road on the way up, and Great Sand Bay greeted us with a grey, windy morning and waves rolling in off the lake. We lined up for group photos at the water’s edge anyway, and MSA ended up written in big letters in the sand.
At Brockway Mountain the fog was so thick you could not see past the edge of the hill, and the summit kept its view entirely to itself. We never did get that view, but we would go again tomorrow. From there the day carried on to Copper Harbor, and the trip ran until about 7 PM.
The day’s plan
- Beach time at Great Sand Bay
- Brockway Mountain scenic overlooks
- Fort Wilkins State Park
- Pizza lunch provided by MSA
- Dhuhr prayer and family time
- Free time in Copper Harbor
Thank you to every family who came along, and to everyone who organized the day.
