“They ask you (O Muhammad PBUH) what is lawful for them (as food). Say: “lawful to you are At-Tayyibat [all kinds of Halal (lawful-good) foods which Allah has made lawful (Meat of slaughtered eatable animals, milk products, fats, vegetables and fruits)]. And those beasts and birds of prey which you have trained as hounds, training and teaching them (to catch) in the manner as directed to you by Allah; so eat of what they catch for you, but pronounce the Name of Allah over it, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is Swift in reckoning.”

(Al-Qur’an, chapter 5, Surah Al-Ma’idah, verse-4)

Assalam u alaikum wa rehmatullahi barkatuhu.

Dear brothers and sisters,

Alhamdulillah, the need for supplying Halal meat, the absence of which was continuously felt by the Muslim community in Houghton over the years, has been addressed.

Earlier M.S.A committees tried to address this concerning matter by consulting various commercial outlets in the vicinity of Michigan tech, but the authenticity of such sources was always doubted and the price of the products was also an issue. Hence, this time around we decided to change the approach and instead of going to the commercial outlets, we tried ourselves to get Halal meat for community.

An informal contract was made with the authentic Halal food suppliers’ viz. Midamar and Al-safa to get the Chicken and arrangement was made to hand slaughter cow/bull according to Islamic wishes, from a nearby supplier, also one of the Muslim brothers came forward to donate the Deep freezer to keep the food for longer duration. May Allah reward this brother with His Choicest Blessings and fulfill all his wishes, Aameen. With all the arrangements in place, the first order was made in the just completed Holy month of Ramadan, and the effort was an instant success with the whole community responding with fervor. Important to note is that this is being done at No profit-No loss basis and only as a service to community.

We at M.S.A are thankful to Brother Mohammad Hussaini for his effort and selfless service to make this project a success. May Allah reward him with the best of His blessings in this world and in the life hereafter, Aameen.
